Zungu On Guimaraes Future: “I’m Going Back”
Bongani Zungu Says He's Enjoying Himself At Guimaraes
The in-demand central midfielder, Bongani Zungu, says that he’s enjoying himself at Vitoria de Guimaraes and will be returning for pre-season at the club despite rumours of a move.
Several clubs across Europe have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old in recent weeks, with his club having received a €6m (R87m) bid from an unnamed English club earlier this week.
The Siya crew reported on Thursday that English Premier League outfit, Tottenham Hotspur, was the latest to show an interest in the Bafana Bafana international, however, at this stage, it remains to be seen whether Guimaraes are willing to sell or not.
Having already offered him a new long-term contract, Guimaraes have indicated that they want to keep the midfielder, but an offer of €6m after originally setting a price of €3.5m may be too difficult to turn down.
Zungu himself, meanwhile, isn’t worried about the speculation, explaining that as things stand nothing has changed.
He told the Siya crew, "I'm not going to comment on my future at this stage. I'm still a Guimaraes player and, while I'm told there is interest, I will be going back to Guimaraes next month for preseason as things stand.
“I still have one year on my contract and I'm enjoying myself here."
Clubs in Portugal, England, Spain and Germany are keeping tabs on the player, and Guimaraes will no doubt accept any offers that match their valuation of the midfield man.
A move to England would be difficult due to the strict work permit rules, however with the right transfer fee and wage then he could be granted one via the FA’s Exceptions Panel.
