Wits Assess Shongwe Options Amid Pirates Rumours
Bidvest Wits Want R2m For Jabulani Shongwe
Bidvest Wits are assessing options for midfielder, Jabulani Shongwe, but insist that his future has not been decided upon yet.
Shongwe has been linked with a move away from the Clever Boys after sitting out last season following his fall down the pecking order, and he has been linked with the likes of Orlando Pirates and Baroka FC as the player and his club mull over the future.
Wits haven’t taken the midfield man with them for their pre-season camp in Stellenbosch and Gavin Hunt has told the media that he expects him to be leaving the club, although at this stage it remains to be seen where his destination will be.
The Siya crew spoke to Wits' CEO, Jose Ferreira, who explained the current situation, stating that there has been interest in the midfielder, but that his future has not been decided at this point.
Ferreira told the crew, “The situation with Shongwe at the moment is that he hasn't gone on camp with the rest of the team because there is a chance of him moving. There's been interest in him and we are willing to let him leave at the right price, but right now there's been no decision made on what will happen with him."
Wits have stated their intention to keep hold of the bulk of their squad going into the new season, with last season’s MTN8 and Absa Premiership winners seeking to add more to their trophy cabinet in the 2017/18 campaign.
