Wits Keep Up Chase For Egyptian Striker
Bidvest Wits Still Want Al Ahly's Amr Gamal
Bidvest Wits are still keen to try and lure Al Ahly’s Amr Gamal to Braamfontein ahead of the new Absa Premiership season, although at this point haven’t achieved their goal.
The 25-year-old is believed to be unsettled in his current team after a difficult season that saw him score just four goals in 21 games, and Wits could be a good escape route for the Egyptian international should the clubs be able to agree on a transfer fee.
Gamal, a product of Ahly’s youth academy, has been playing CAF Champions League football almost his whole career so far, scoring twice against Cotonsport earlier this month as his current club booked their spot in the quarterfinals of the competition.
With Wits currently the reigning champions of South Africa and securing a spot in next year’s CCL, Gamal may be tempted to try and test himself in Mzansi after years in his home country.
Gavin Hunt has already picked up the likes of Daylon Claasen, Steven Pienaar, Kobamelo Kodisang and Slavko Damjanovic ahead of the new season, but it remains to be seen whether they will be able to add Gamal to that list or not.
