Wits Bring Malawian Back From Stars, Ex Downs Man Arrives
Bidvest Wits Are Keeping Gerald Phiri Jnr This Season
Bidvest Wits are believed to have decided that Gerald Phiri Jnr will be a part of their squad for the upcoming season after a successful loan spell with Platinum Stars.
The 24-year-old played a vital role for Dikwena after joining them in the second half of the 2016/17 season, playing 18 domestic games under Cavin Johnson as they managed to avoid relegation.
Phiri can be registered as a local due to the fact that his father is from South Africa, and it appears that Gavin Hunt sees him as a part of his plans for the 2017/18 campaign after they chose not to let him leave for Dikwena or any other club at this stage.
Meanwhile, Franklin Cale has started training with Wits after leaving Highlands Park at the end of last season.
Cale, now 34, played under Hunt during their time at SuperSport together, and it could be that the former Mamelodi Sundowns man is just being given the chance to keep himself fit with the Clever Boys.
