Benni To Try And Lure Steven Pienaar To City?
Cape Town City is believed to be interested in luring former Bafana Bafana captain, Steven Pienaar, to the club, following the appointment of Benni McCarthy at the helm.
Eric Tinkler stepped down from his role as the head coach of the Mother City-based club on June 08, where City subsequently appointed McCarthy to lead the team’s bench for the 2017/18 season.
McCarthy put pen to paper on a three-year deal at the club and indications are that the Bafana Bafana legend is keen on adding more depth to the brand and the legacy of the club in the new season.
According to a Siya source in the know, the 39-year-old is believed to be keen on bringing Pienaar to the Mother City-based club for the 2017/18 campaign.
Pienaar will become a free agent on July 01 and as reported previously in the media, the 34-year-old has expressed his desire to end his professional footballing career in Mzansi, where it all started.
However, City is not the only club who are keen on the player’s services. As previously revealed in Soccer Laduma, a number of Premier Soccer League outfits, including the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are believed to be interested in trying to lure the former Sunderland man to their camp.
In addition, the player’s representative, Lance Davids at On Target Consultants, previously said that the final decision will rest completely on where Pienaar chooses to ply his trade.
Now, it remains to be seen whether McCarthy will look to convince his former Bafana teammate to join up with the 2016 Telkom Knockout champions next season.
