Konqobe Update: Sought-After Defender Now At AmaZulu
Ayabulela Konqobe Has Now Surfaced At AmaZulu
The sought-after defender, Ayabulela Konqobe, is now at AmaZulu.
On June 30, the Siya crew revealed that AmaZulu surprisingly made enquiries about the services of the defender.
The centre back previously played for AmaZulu, when he joined the club in 2015 on a season-long loan deal from Ajax Cape Town.
He was, however, released from Usuthu halfway through the season. At the time, the KZN outfit cited that the former South Africa U20 captain ‘failed to adhere to the club’s rules’.
But the player has now rejoined the club, having been signed a three-year contract, according to sources.
"The player is at AmaZulu. It's true that he is training with the club. In fact, I can confirm to you that the player has signed with AmaZulu. He has signed a five-year contract with the club. It's a three-year deal with an option for two years," said the source.
Konqobe is a player who has attracted interest from a number of clubs since he finished the 2016/17 season with Thanda Royal Zulu.
Chippa United thought they landed him after they ‘signed’ him on a three-year deal. But the deal fell through after it turned out that the 21-year-old still had a contract with Thanda.
Orlando Pirates and Free State Stars are some of the clubs that were strongly linked with the player.
“I have never seen this or heard about it before. I have never heard of a player wanted by so many clubs at the same time. The last time I counted, there have been 14 clubs interested in the player. It’s unbelievable,” a source has told the Siya crew.
AmaZulu will be playing in the PSL next season after they successfully bought the status of Thanda Royal Zulu.
