Sundowns & Pirates Target ‘Close’ To New Deal
A Move For Jeremy Brockie Is Difficult For Orlando Pirates & Mamelodi Sundowns
SuperSport United say that Jeremy Brockie is closer to signing a contract extension at the club than leaving for Mamelodi Sundowns or Orlando Pirates.
Both Masandawana and the Buccaneers are known to be very interested in trying to land the New Zealander’s signature before the transfer window closes, however Matsatsantsa have been adamant that he’s not for sale at any cost.
It remains to be seen whether Sundowns and Pirates will look to test SuperSport’s resolve in the coming weeks, however the Kiwi’s current club say that he’s closer to signing a new contract – which the player suggested – than he is to joining anybody else.
Brockie is seemingly set to play a big role for new head coach, Eric Tinkler, who will be hoping to see him hit 20 goals once again in 2017/18.
Stan Matthews, SuperSport’s CEO, told the Siya crew, “He’s got three years left on his contract, and as things stand we’re closer to a one-year extension on Jeremy than losing him. That’s of his volition, he’s said that he’d like to try and end his career here.
“If we can meet his aspirations then that’s great, but if not then we’ll certainly reach a compromise at the end of the season where, if we win silverware and he contributes, if there’s a life-changing deal for him then we won’t begrudge him.”
Meanwhile, his head coach certainly has plans for the player, with Tinkler telling the crew, “He’s going nowhere. I’ve had that discussion with Jeremy and he himself has committed himself to the club. He’s very happy where he is and he’s not going anywhere.”
Brockie’s current contract runs until 2020.
