SA’s Only UEFA Champions League Rep Progresses

Dino Ndlovu's Qarabag Progressed In The Champions League

By Joe Crann - Jul 19, 2017 12:13 PM @YesWeCrann
Dino Ndlovu, South Africa’s only representative in this year’s UEFA Champions League, secured his spot in the next round of qualifiers with Qarabag last night.

The 27-year-old played 70 minutes for his side as they picked up a 1-0 win over Samtredia of Georgia to complete a 6-0 aggregate victory and book their spot in the penultimate round of qualifying.

Ndlovu will find out tonight whether he will be heading to Moldova to face Sheriff Tiraspol or lining up against Albania’s Kukësi in the next round, with the two clubs doing battle in Elbasan.

The South African forward scored a brace in the first leg of the second qualifying round and will now be taking aim at adding to his tally going into the third round later this month.

Speaking to the Siya crew after last night's win, Ndlovu said, "I'm really happy that I have a  chance to participate in the qualifiers for such a prestigious tournament. The Champions League is more difficult because you have the possibility of facing the champions of any European country in order to be in the group stages.

"We made it easier for ourselves after winning 5-0 at home but our focus now is on tonight's game to see who we'll be facing next week. I'm happy that I'm gaining experience in European competitions."

The third round qualifying games will take place on the 25th/26th of July and the 1st/2nd of August. Should Qarabag beat their next opponent then only one more team will stand between them and the group stages of the tournament.
