Baxter Reveals What His Dad Told Him About Coaching

Stuart Baxter Has Revealed What His Dad Told Him About Success

By Soccer Laduma - Jun 26, 2017 02:46 PM

Stuart Baxter says that as long as SuperSport United feel like he has earned what the club paid him, he’ll leave them as a happy man.

Baxter’s time with Matsatsantsa came to an end this weekend when he masterminded a 4-1 victory over Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final, winning the tournament for the third time in his career.

His 18 months in charge of the club saw them lift the Nedbank Cup twice and reach the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time, as well as secure their best Absa Premiership finish since the 2013/14 season.

Having steered the club to three cup finals, won two of them and made it into the CCC groups, Baxter has helped the club win around R25m in prize money and he says he needs to see if the chairman, Khulu Sibiya, is happy with his work.

Speaking after the win over Pirates, the Englishman said, “My father‚ God bless him‚ was the coach at Aston Villa. I grew up at Aston Villa watching him work and when I got into coaching he used talk very harshly to me‚ saying that I wasn’t good enough and I shouldn’t be easily satisfied but keep working.

“He said to me when you leave a football club and you can turn and ask the chairman‚ did I earn every penny that you paid me and if the answer is yes‚ you’ve done okay.

“I would like to ask the chairman, 'Did I earn the money that you paid me?', and if he says yes then I am happy. That’s how I would like to be remembered.”

Baxter has now travelled to Rustenburg ahead of Bafana’s COSAFA Cup game on Sunday.

You're such a good tactician Sir Baxter who believe in your players no matter what other people are saying about their age and performance. You demand the best out of your players, I wish you well in Bafana Bafana mhlekazi

Please teach Khomphela because he has not earned what he has been paid for the last two seasons. Sir Baxter to me is one of the few coaches that i clearly understand when it comes to his tactics, organisation, structure and plans Bobby and Kaizer Snr were careless in letting the coach leave after such a successful stint.
