Can Stuart Baxter Upset Kjell Jonevret’s Pirates’ Future?
In May last year, it was Stuart Baxter who put an end to former Orlando Pirates head coach, Eric Tinkler’s dream of clinching his first piece of silverware with his side, but will the Bafana Bafana head coach also upset Kjell Jonevret’s future with the Soweto giants?

Baxter will take charge of SuperSport United one last time on Saturday, June 24, when his side locks horns with the Buccaneers at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in the 2017 Nedbank Cup final.
The Englishman will want to finish off his SuperSport career on a high, before returning to his permanent duties as the head coach of the national team.
Saturday’s encounter will be a repeat of last year’s showing when Matsatsantsa defeated Pirates 3-2 to be crowned 2016 Nedbank Cup champions.
As reported previously on Soccer Laduma, Siya sources have revealed that it could be a crucial end of season review to determine Bucs’ coach, Jonevret’s future at the club and indications are that much will depend on the result in the Nedbank Cup final.
Pirates experienced a disappointing 2016/17 campaign, however, after the appointment of Jonevret at the helm in February this year, the Swedish-born head coach managed to guide the Soweto giants to a spot in the final of the competition.
However, Saturday’s encounter will not be an easy one for either side, as Pirates are desperately looking to clinch a piece of silverware in their 80th anniversary, while SuperSport will want to defend their Nedbank Cup title and give Head Coach Baxter a great farewell gift.
