CAF Champions League
Teams: Mamelodi Sundowns v Wydad Casablanca
Date: 17 September 2017
Venue: Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium
The race for African supremacy continues when Mamelodi Sundowns host Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in a bid for first leg advantage in this CAF Champions League encounter.
The Brazilians will look to use home ground advantage to gain the upper hand in this two-legged encounter if they are to give themselves a chance of progressing to the next round.
Pitso Mosimane will be without the trio of George Lebese (groin), Anthony Laffor (ankle) and Khama Billiat (Hip-flex) who all miss out due to injury.
The visitors who topped Group D ahead of African giants Al Ahly will be wary of the threat posed by defending champions Sundowns, especially in their own backyard.
Hussein Amotta’s men managed to top a tough group which was decided on the last group game which shows the quality that they possess and their ability to grind out results.
They will however be looking to capitalize on the absence of the influential attacking threat of Billiat and Laffor and will also look to impose themselves with their own attacking strengths.
The depth in the Sundowns team will need to come to the fore in this crucial stage of their season along with their experience out in Africa. A draw would be a good result for the visitors but it’s difficult to imagine the North Africans playing for a draw.
Here's how they line up:
Sundowns: 16 Onyango, 27 Morena, 6 Arendse, 23 Madisha, 4 Langerman, 11 Vilakazi, 9 Manyisa, 8 Kekana, 18 Zwane, 22 Tau, 29 Castro
Subs: 1 Mweene, 2 Nthethe, 3 Hachi, 15 Mohomi, 20 Ngcongca, 24 Zakri, 29 Soumahoro
