Bafana Duo Withdrawn, Replacements Called Up
Two Bafana Players Have Been Withdrawn From Stuart Baxter's Squad
Bafana Bafana duo, Mandla Masango and Lebogang Phiri, have both been withdrawn from the COSAFA Cup squad after their clubs refused to release them.
The duo, who play for Randers in Denmark and EA Guingamp in France, will now not be reporting for camp in Rustenburg as Stuart Baxter's players report for duty ahead of the quarter-final later this week.
SAFA confirmed today that Stellenbosch FC's Jamie Webber and Mohau Mokate of Maritzburg United have been called up to replace the two players as Baxter begins his preparations in the North West.
Webber, 19, played 23 games for Stellenbosch this season, while Maritzburg's Mokate, 26, played 22 and scored five goals.
Randers want Masango back for preseason camp next month while Guingamp require Phiri to be in France following his move there from Brondby.
Baxter will join the camp today after steering SuperSport United to Nedbank Cup victory on Saturday and as of July 1st will be a full-time SAFA employee after working for both club and country over the last few weeks.
Bafana's first COSAFA CUP game takes place on Sunday when they will face Tanzania, Angola, Mauritius or Malawi.
