Baxter: He Feels Like He’s Let Everybody Down
Stuart Baxter Says Kaizer Chiefs' Erick Mathoho Is Despondent After Bafana Dismissal
Bafana Bafana’s Stuart Baxter says that Erick Mathoho is ‘despondent’ after the weekend’s loss to Cape Verde, saying that the Kaizer Chiefs man will probably feel like he’s ‘let everybody down’.
The 27-year-old defender couldn’t help the team as they went from 1-0 up to 2-1 down in a short space of time on Friday evening in Praia and then found himself having an early bath after needlessly kicking out at an opponent as Bafana were chasing an equaliser.
Now, with Baxter considering who should replace ‘Tower’ for the home tie against Cape Verde, the Englishman says that the Amakhosi man will be asking himself questions about what he could have done differently.

Speaking after the defeat, Baxter said, “Composure and discipline and focus, you’ve got to have them. You can’t switch them on and off. Tower’s got to learn from this and hopefully, he will.
“He’s despondent. He feels probably that he’s let everybody down, and that’s not the case – this can happen – but certainly he’s got to ask himself ‘Could I have done it differently?’ and I’m sure the answer that he’ll come to is, yes he could.”
Bafana face Cape Verde in a must-win game in Durban on Tuesday evening.
