Baxter Travelling SA To Decide COSAFA Squad

Stuart Baxter Is Travelling Around South Africa Ahead Of The COSAFA Cup

By Soccer Laduma - Jun 15, 2017 05:20 PM

Stuart Baxter is currently in Cape Town meeting clubs as he assesses who will be available for the upcoming COSAFA Cup next month.

Bafana Bafana, who are the reigning champions after winning it last year, will go into the tournament in the quarter-finals against the winners of Group A, with Angola, Mauritius, Malawi or Tanzania awaiting them on July 2nd.

Baxter is expected to name his squad for the tournament at some point next week and SAFA’s Communications Manager, Dominic Chimhavi, has confirmed that he is currently doing the rounds to speak to different clubs in the country about the availability of players.

Chimhavi explained that Baxter is in the Mother City at present, presumably talking to Cape Town City and Ajax Cape Town and that he is also meeting with other clubs around the country to discuss the COSAFA Cup.

It remains to be seen what sort of side Baxter will name for the COSAFA as he continues to try and expand the pool of players available for the national team, however, he has hinted that there will be a number of youngsters involved.

The tournament will take place in South Africa’s North West.

We don't have great players that can take the nation somewhere. I mean we can't win 3 games in a row even when we change the coaches

Shadae, the generational transitional phase only begins after the World Cup. The 2018 WC, will be dominated by players born between (1987 to 1994). The trend amongst leading football nations is towards that trajectory now. Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina and France understand the benefits of seasoned professionals over younger prospects yet to prove themselves fully at club level. Unless a young player is exceptionally talented a more cautious approach is best practiced, in this regard.

He does not have to travel the country to decide the SA squad. The players below have proven themselves over the 2016/17 local season.

Baxter must just call all Pirates S.A players since they're not good enough for real national team. Those cows can play against the C-sides of other African teams
