FIFA Responds To SAFA’s Letter, Confirms Bafana And Senegal Not At Fault

By Soccer Laduma - Sep 07, 2017 01:12 PM

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association has since responded to the South African Football Association’s acknowledgement letter last night, September 06, following the decision to schedule a replay between Bafana Bafana and Senegal.

FIFA confirmed yesterday (Wednesday 06,) that the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Bafana and Senegal which took place last year, November, is set to be replayed after the match referee, Joseph Lamptey, who officiated the qualifier, received a life-long ban for match manipulation.

Bafana secured a win over Senegal on the day, following a penalty which was awarded to Shakes Mashaba’s side at the time, which ended the score, 2-1 to Bafana.

Following FIFA’s statement last night, SAFA responded to the ruling by confirming that the association is set to challenge the decision made by SAFA.

FIFA since responded to SAFA, by confirming that neither the South African national team nor Senegal is at fault, as the decision of a replay comes after the exclusive disciplinary proceedings against the match referee, Lamptey.

The letter read, as taken from journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana's official twitter account, “Dear Mr Mumble. Further to yesterday’s communication of the decision passed by the Bureau for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, whereby the match between South Africa and Senegal shall be replayed in November 2017, and following SAFA’s acknowledgment letter received last night, FIFA Confirms that the disciplinary proceedings were directed exclusively at the match referee, Mr Lamptey.

We thus herewith confirm that neither SAFA nor the FSF are accused of any wrongdoing. FIFA Will make reference to this in fact on fifa.com.”

However, a source within the SAFA setup has confirmed to the Siya crew that the association will continue with their intention of appealing FIFA’s decision for a replay.

Danny Jordaan, FIFA forgets that we form part of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India China & SA), Whether we qualify the group stages or not we (BRICKS) are hosting the World Cup, Russia will deploy some of the World Cup matches to Mzantsi, BRICKS is working, bayeke oFIFA balele, we have used a political strategy for this time around, hahaha....

Bafana Bafana are in junk status, even if FIFA could reverse its decision of docking us 3 points we won't make it to Russia, Baxter, his Technical Team and the people who selected this bunch of losers have disappointed the country. Burkina Faso has a good point here, they are correct to challenge FIFA decision, currently they are leading the group stages, if Senegal play BB and win that will deprive their path to Russia

First of all I just don't understand why is Bafana being punished because of the referee? People just answer this question so that we can understand how did Bafana influenced the outcome of the game. I'll understand if it is found that SAFA sneaked a brown envelop to the referee but that is not the case up to this point and time. As much as I agree that Bafana made their task impossible by being beaten by Cape Verde its no reason to punish them for something they didn't do or being party to. There is a school of thought that say if the same thing happened to Bafana they will have cried foul and challenge the awarding of the penalty and I will still say the same thing that it is not the fault of the opposition that it was given. The problem with us South Africans is we always see ourselves as victims even when we have been victimized. I can tell you now if the penalty was awarded against us no appeal will have been entertained and reason will have been what does that have to do with Senegal. To me is they must appeal that decision and honestly I still believe that Bafana will not beat Senegal so they must fight for those 3 points given to them by Mr. Lampty cause if they are going to play Senegal twice they are going to loose 6 points. My final verdict is appeal the decision and only loose 3 points against Senegal.

I don't rate SAFA very highly but this FIFA decision smacks of bullying. I have never seen a match being replayed because a referee was biased. Can this please apply to Kaizer Chiefs matches?

I dnt understand this FIFA thing now.Something is fish.We ve seen players diving and a dubias penalt being given.Sometimes where there has been a clear faul in the 18 box but no penalt being given All we get is the refereers decision is final.why this replay now?

This is bully tactics. No wrongdoing against S.A has been found. The referee was appointed by SAFA. This is not the first time there is a controversial win n soccer and no soccer match has ever been replayed due to that. The referee decision is always final. Not to mention FIFA made this decision without even consulting SAFA to hear their side of the story. This is victimization

Hehehehehehe.......THAT WAS NOT FIFA DECISION. IT WAS A RECOMMENDATION FROM THEIR DESCIPLINARY COMMITTEE. FIFA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MUST STILL DECIDE ON IT NEXT WEEK.

for me i think FIFA got it very wrong , first who schedule the match official, second why they respond so late . another thing are they going to pay all the cost of this rematch? who many game were ripped . Irish didn't make it to 2010 do to the issue like this but nothing was said . if was SAFA i would open a very strong case to FIFA.
