Baxter Pleased With Experienced Players

By Soccer Laduma - Jul 08, 2017 09:01 AM

Bafana Bafana head coach, Stuart Baxter was pleased with the showing of the experienced players during their 1-0 win over Namibia in the COSAFA Cup Plate final.

Mohau Mokate's deflected strike midway through the first half was enough to hand Bafana victory in the Plate section on Friday evening.

Baxter was pleased with the experienced players performed, while he felt the younger players did OK.

"It's a very tough 90 minutes at the end of tournament when the players have played their third game in five days and it asks a lot of them," Baxter told SuperSport after the game.

"But I thought they ansewered quite well tonight (Friday).  We decided before the game that the young ones would go on to finish and they had the responsibilty to run the game out.

"We had a bit of luck with the crossbar, but if we had a bit more composure, maybe we could have closed the game out a little earlier and Namibia worked very hard and they kept us under pressure.

"The young ones went on and did OK. The experience ones, in the beginning they showed that there is a place for experience."

It is pity to see Norodien struggle to find game time at bucs. Only Baxter can see that the guy is quality, the only thing left is serious attention.

Mamelodi Sundowns forward Anthony Laffor insists that playing football non-stop over the past 24 months is no reason for them complain. Laffor argues that, as professionals who are paid to do this job, they are actually enjoying being on the field week-in and week-out. Since the start of the 2015/16 season The Brazilians have had no proper off-season due to their continental commitments, with the domestic seasons not running in tandem with their CAF schedule. “Every footballer wants to play football and the space that we are in now, we are enjoying that space,” Laffor tells INDIDANE While other local clubs have had a few weeks off since the end of May, Sundowns have had to remain active in dealing with the demands of travelling the continent as they fulfil Champions’ League group stages fixtures, just as they did last year on their way to being crowned the champions of Africa. The Brazilians will only have a mini-break of just over two weeks after Sunday’s game against AS Vita, and then return to prepare for the new domestic season which kicks off early next month. “The only unfortunate part is that our families are not enjoying it because we don’t get to spend as much time with them," he admits. "To tell you the truth, every footballer in the world wants to play football week in, week out. Even in Europe they play@ football week in week out. "So with us we are not complaining because we are enjoying the situation that we are in. We just need to focus well and be very disciplined because at the end of the day, if you're not disciplined your career is going to get affected,” reasons the Liberian adding that their target remains finishing top of the group. Sundowns – just like Esperance – have already qualified for the quarterfinal stage in Group C, but the battle to determine who finishes top is still on. The Brazilians host The Black Dolphins at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday (19h00), while the Tunisians welcome Saint George to Tunis in a match that will kick-off at the same time. “At the beginning of these group stages we told ourselves that we want to be number one in the group, and we are number two at the moment. "The game on Sunday is important because if we win you never know what will happen in Tunisia, Laffor concluded

It's still too early to criticise Baxter he has won an important match already. Cosafa Cup is just a tournament to be assessing players and giving our young players a chance for me he is still doing well let's give him time.
