Baxter Calls Up Replacements For Khune And Keet
Head Coach Stuart Baxter has called up replacements for both Itumeleng Khune and Darren Keet who have been withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad due to injury.
Bafana will travel away to face Cape Verde in the first leg of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers scheduled to be underway on September, 01.
The Englishman announced his official 25-man squad on Monday, August 21, with Khune and Keet both making their way back into the national team setup.
However, it has since been confirmed that the duo has been ruled out of both club and national team duty, with Khune currently suffering with a chest infection and Keet nursing an injury to his knee.
The South African Football Association has since confirmed that Head Coach Baxter has called up SuperSport United’s Reyaad Pieterse and Orlando Pirates’ Wayne Sandilands to replace the duo.
“Bafana Bafana goalkeepers Itumeleng Khune and Darren Keet have been withdrawn from the squad that will take on Cape Verde in back to back 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers,” SAFA confirmed on their official website.
“Khune is down with a chest infection while Keet is suffering from a knee injury. Head coach Stuart Baxter has called up Reyaad Pieterse of Supersport United as well as Wayne Sandilands of Orlando Pirates as replacements,” the association added.
