Bafana To Lose Retsos After Greek Squad Named
Bafana Target, Panagiotis Retsos, Is Expected To Make His Greek Debut Shortly
Bafana Bafana look unlikely to secure the allegiance of the talented young defender, Panagiotis Retsos, with the teenager being called up to the latest Greek squad.
South African national team coach, Stuart Baxter, recently confirmed that he was trying to persuade the 19-year-old to play for Bafana going forward given the fact that he was born in Johannesburg, however, did explain that it would be a big ask.
Retsos has represented Greece at several youth levels over the past few years and while he was born in Mzansi it is thought that his allegiances are with the Greek side having spent the majority of his life there.
The Olympiacos defender, who has been heavily linked with Bayer Leverkusen this transfer window, has been named to the senior national team before, however, didn’t make his debut, leaving him open to change nationalities at this point.
Although should – as expected – Retsos feature against Estonia or Belgium in the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers, then SAFA will have to officially scratch him off their watchlist.
