Two defeats to Cape Verde have hurt South Africa’s attempts to climb up the rankings, and they were also handed a heavy blow after the win over Senegal was nullified for ‘match manipulation’ by FIFA.
The lack of points in those three games has seen Bafana drop to 80th place in the rankings, seeing them hit their lowest point since 2013, when they were ranked in 85th position.
Meanwhile, Cape Verde’s wins have rocketed them up the table and they are the best movers this month, jumping a whopping 47 places to 67th in the world and 13th in Africa. South Africa are now ranked in 18th place on the continent.
Egypt remain the top ranked African nation in the world (25th), while Tunisia (31) are now in second place after leapfrogging the Democratic Republic of Congo.
