The South African men’s U20 national team claimed an impressive victory over hosts, England in their tri-nations tournament.

Amajita travelled to the United Kingdom for the tournament, where they first suffered a 4-0 defeat to Brazil, before recovering quickly to secure a 2-1 win over England.

Goals from Lyle Foster and Tashreeq Matthews who are products of the youth development at Orlando Pirates and Ajax Cape Town respectively, saw Amajita clinch a win on the day.

Speaking to the South African Football Association’s official website, Helman Mkhahlele, who stood in for the absent Thabo Senong, has shared his thoughts after the victory.

“It was a great learning curve for all, especially the players who are new to the international scene. It was also used to improve those who have been around the national team set-up because we played two quality teams,” he said on SAFA’s official website.

“The victory means a lot to the team, but more so to me as an individual after being given the task of leading the team. The win came as a relief after being beaten by Brazil with a huge margin. We gave England a soft goal in the dying minutes, and that’s another lesson to the boys not to lose concentration until the final whistle. But I am impressed with the way the tournament ended. This was a worthwhile trip,” he added.

We are shown too many unnecessary repeats of games and highlights. Is it with regard to finances and rights that we are or were not shown these games.
