A Word From Our Sponsor…
Let us start by congratulating coach Stuart Baxter and his young Bafana Bafana troops for overcoming Botswana in the two-legged Chan qualifier. The boys did extremely well and have given Coach Baxter an idea of who to turn to when his tried-and-tested players are not available for selection. There are just a few steps to the Promised Land now, and we wish them all the best.
As we are nearing the end of July and getting closer to August, which is Women’s Month, we thought it would best to acknowledge the women involved in football. Since the re-admission of our sport into the international arena by FIFA in 1992, our women’s national team has played in two Olympic Games, in 2012 and 2016 respectively. That is an achievement if one considers the fact that we don’t have a full-time women’s football league yet.
The Premier Soccer League’s current CEO is Mato Madlala who also happens to be the owner of Lamontville Golden Arrows FC. That is quite an achievement, as we all know that the PSL is a turf dominated by males. We salute Mama Mato.
Portia Modise has played over 100 games for Banyana Banyana – another milestone by a female footballer. Even in Bafana Bafana, it is only Aaron Mokoena who has surpassed the 100th cap mark. At AVBOB, we salute all women in football.
