UEFA Champions League Starting XI: Borussia Dortmund vs Real Madrid
Cristiano Ronaldo will make his 400th appearance for Real Madrid when the defending champions travel to Borussia Dortmund, a destination they have never won at in the UEFA Champions League.
UEFA Champions League
Teams: Borussia Dortmund
Date: 26 September 2017
Venue: Signal Iduna Park
Los Blancos returned to winning ways against Deportivo Alaves on Saturday, but the 2-1 victory courtesy of two strikes from new signing Dani Ceballos was not convincing. Real's 73-match scoring run ended last week, when they were beaten 1-0 at home by Real Betis.
Dortmund, meanwhile, have begun the season in superb form. Peter Bosz's side lead the Bundesliga table after winning five of their first six games, and drawing the other, with a goal difference of +18.
The match will be Ronaldo's 400th in all competitions for Los Blancos, and his 150th in the Champions League, in which he has scored 12 goals in his past six games.
The home side will hope Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can continue his fine goalscoring form – the Gabon striker has begun the new campaign with 12 goals in his first nine games in all competitions.
Dortmund host Madrid for a seventh time and are yet to lose a home fixture against the Spanish giants, winning three and drawing three, including the latest meeting in Germany on 26 September 2016, when the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Here is how both teams will line up:
Borussia Dortmund: Bürki; Piszczek, Sokratis, Toprak, Toljan; Castro, Sahin, Götze; Yarmolenko, Aubameyang, Philipp.
Real Madrid: Navas; Carvajal, Ramos, Varane, Nacho; Casemiro; Kroos, Modric; Isco; Ronaldo, Bale.
