Official: Chelsea's next Departure Revealed
The likes of Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic have been linked with exits from Chelsea, and the Blues' next departure has now been revealed.
Antonio Conte is continuing his revamp of the Premier League champions' squad, and has already sold or released five players during the off-season.
Young centre back Nathan Ake has joined AFC Bournemouth for £20 million (R340 million) – a new club record fee for the Cherries, the team he spent the first half of the 2016/17 campaign on loan at.
"I had a great time here last season so I’m really happy to be back," Ake told Bournemouth's official website.
"It's an exciting challenge. Chelsea is a great club and I learned so much there but this is a new step and the right place for me to develop even more.
"The fans haven't seen the best of me yet. I always set the bar high so I know there is a lot of things I still have to work on.
"With the help of the manager here, I know I can keep improving and become a better player."
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe also expressed his happiness at having the player at the club permanently.
"I am delighted that we have completed the signing of Nathan on a permanent basis," the tactician said.
"He is someone we know all about, having had a very successful loan spell here last season.
"Nathan is an outstanding young player with a fantastic attitude and a great desire to learn and develop.
"He has a very bright future ahead of him and I'm very pleased to say that future is here."
After spending the first half of the previous campaign on loan at Bournemouth, Ake was recalled by Chelsea during the January transfer window. However, he only made five appearances for the Blues in the rest of the season.
The Netherlands international is Chelsea's sixth departure after Asmir Begovic and African duo Bertrand Traore and Christian Atsu were sold, Juan Cuadrado's loan deal with Juventus was made official and John Terry left the club on a free.
The Blues are expected to announce some new signings after their new kit deal with Nike officially begins on Saturday, 1 July.
