Jose Mourinho Close To Snatching Chelsea Star
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking to raid his former club, and could sign a Chelsea star by the end of this week.
The Portuguese, who coached the Blues for a second spell between 2013 and 2015, is understood to be keen on luring Nemanja Matic to Old Trafford.
According to ESPN, the Serbian is the Portuguese tactician's preferred target for the defensive midfield role.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are eager to sign AS Monaco's Tiemoue Bakayoko, and the 22-year-old's arrival could allow Matic to reunite with his former boss.
Bakayoko is expected to arrive in London for a medical this week, with the transfer window in many of Europe's major leagues set to open on 1 July.
Mourinho reportedly wants to get his business done early in order to have his new signings at the club for pre-season, and ESPN claimed that the Red Devils are prepared to pay £40 million (R656 million) for Matic.
The 28-year-old has made 154 appearances for Chelsea, scoring seven goals and assisting another 20 strikes, and also lifting five trophies along the way.
