World Cup Winner: I Was Better Than Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo

By Keegan Kruger - Oct 05, 2017 06:00 PM @KeeganKruger

While most find it difficult to compare players from the past to those of the present, a former FIFA World Cup winner believes he was better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are in the penalty area.

2018 World Cup Without Ronaldo & Messi?

According to 1994 FIFA World Player of the Year Romario, neither the Portuguese nor the Argentine will end their careers with more goals than him.

"It's true that Messi and Ronaldo have different characteristics to mine and that they are the best players in the world today," Romario said at a launch for his new book, as quoted by Marca.

"They are the best in the world, along with Neymar.

"They have both won titles and the Ballon d'Or, but, modestly speaking, I can say that I was better than them in the penalty area.

"They will never reach the number of goals that I scored, and I'll beat them by twice the amount."

Ronaldo 10, Messi 1

The former FC Barcelona striker also played for the likes of Valencia, PSV Eindhoven, Vasco Da Gama, Al-Sadd and Adelaide United.

Do you think Romario was a better goalscorer than Messi and Ronaldo are today? Have your say in the comments section below.

He was better than them. Football has dropped. Messi and Ronaldo are desperately over-hyped, that is all.
