Romelu Lukaku: I Want To Emulate Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester United’s new striker Romelu Lukaku has revealed that he wishes to reach the heights of Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Belgian became the Red Devils’ second most expensive signing in history when he joined from Everton earlier this month, and has already scored twice this pre-season.
Lukaku was recently asked if he sees himself growing to become like Ronaldo or Robert Lewandowski, and admitted that although he is far from their quality, he aims to make a similar impact as a striker.
"I'm far from that level. But it's the level I want to aim for. I'm 24, I can't say I'm the complete package. I can't say I'm in my prime," he said, according to the Daily Mirror.
"There is a lot of work to be done and I'm delighted that there is still work to be done. That means I can become even better than I am.
"That's the state of mind I have – I always want to be better. There is always room to improve. I just want to become the best player I can be.
"I'll never say it's good enough. It's a pressure I put on myself. When you play for United, you have to perform every week."
Lukaku scored 87 goals and assisted a further 29 strikes in 166 matches for Everton
