FC Barcelona Star Denies Criticising Lionel Messi
An FC Barcelona player has publicly denied speaking badly about Lionel Messi and coach Ernesto Valverde behind their backs.
Portuguese newspaper Récord recently published a quote taken from Don Balon, in which midfielder Andre Gomes reportedly said: "Messi was the player who decided the starting line-ups, not Valverde."
Gomes, who has not featured much under his new manager at the Camp Nou, has now insisted that the quote is false.
"I haven't said anything against Messi or Valverde. It's made up," he said, according to AS.
"I have great respect for Valverde and Leo."
The 24-year-old has featured in just six games for the Catalan club this season, and played just 28 minutes of 2017/18 La Liga football so far.
Gomes, who has been labelled as a flop signing by many Barca fans, has contributed to just six goals in 53 games since his arrival from Valencia last season.
