'FC Barcelona President Has Lied About Lionel Messi'
FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has once again been accused of lying about Lionel Messi’s future at the club.
Spanish football expert Graham Hunter has torn into the Catalan club’s leader over the Argentine’s contract situation, suggesting that no matter what Bartomeu says, Messi could legally sign for a new club for free, if he doesn't sign before 1 January.
“Why has he felt it necessary to lie about Messi and Iniesta?” he said on the Transfer Window Podcast, according to the Daily Star.
“As of now, Messi has been available to sign on the dotted line and Bartomeu has said ‘everything is complete’ as he said with Iniesta.
“For many, many months now it hasn’t happened and irrespective of what Bartomeu is saying, until the player signs his name on the playing contract for a deal to take him to 2021, the hard fact is Jorge Messi (Lionel’s dad) is legitimately able to sign on behalf of his son for several things.
“But if Lionel Messi doesn’t sign, all of the other things become invalid. Come January 1, he’s free to do whatever he wants.”
The Argentina forward’s contract expires at the end of the season, as well as Andres Iniesta’s, and despite the club’s claims it appears as though both players have not yet committed their futures to the club.
