Real Madrid Star Faces Long Spell On Sidelines With Rare Heart Condition
One of Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid stars is facing a long spell on the sidelines with a rare heart condition, which could present an opportunity for an African starlet to shine.
Right back Dani Carvajal missed Los Blancos' 2-0 victory over Espanyol last weekend, and while initial reports suggested he had a viral infection, Marca has now claimed he could be out for at least two months.
It has been suggested that the 25-year-old is suffering from a rare heart condition that forces him to abstain from high-intensity work.
"Following tests carried out on Dani Carvajal, he has been diagnosed with a viral pericardium infection. His recovery will continue to be assessed," a statement on Real Madrid's official website read, without giving any further details.
Carvajal's situation could be a chance for Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi to shine.
The 18-year-old, who was born in Madrid to Moroccan parents and has already represented the Morocco senior side coached by Herve Renard, made his senior debut for Los Blancos against Espanyol.
Zidane was full of praise for Hakimi after his first competitive game, and will likely continue to feature the youngster after Real opted not to sign another right back during the transfer window, during which Danilo made the switch to Manchester City.
