Manchester City Ready To Make R6.4bn Lionel Messi Move?
It is believed that Pep Guardiola's Manchester City are preparing a R6.4 billion world record bid for Lionel Messi if he does not renew his contract at FC Barcelona.
The Argentine is yet to sign a new deal with the Catalan club, and with his current contract expiring in 2018, he could open talks with another club in January.
Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu has been accused of lying about Messi's contract situation on more than one occasion in recent months – he had claimed a few months ago that the Argentine had signed a new deal, only for it to later be discovered that he had not.
According to AS, the Citizens are ready to bid €400 million (R6.4 billion) for the 30-year-old in January if he makes it clear he will not sign an extension at the Camp Nou.
Messi could potentially move for free if he lets his contract expire, but if he does leave in January, a massive transfer fee would be required.
The Argentine has scored 14 goals and assisted a further three strikes in 11 games for Barca so far this season.
