Atletico Reveal Why Hernandez Was Allowed To Join Rivals Real Madrid
Atletico Madrid have explained why they allowed of one of their players to join cross-town rivals, Real Madrid.
There is believed to be a pact between the two sides, which stopped Sergio Aguero from moving to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2011.
However, Real recently confirmed the signing of Theo Hernandez, who spent last season on loan at Alaves from Atletico.
Atletico revealed Hernandez rejected a new contract from the club and also had a number offers from various clubs in Europe.
A statement from the club read. “The player, who has never made debut with our first team in official match, has rejected the proposals of renewal of our club and the offerings of other European clubs.
"Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have reached an agreement for the transfer of Theo Hernandez.
“The defender, who last season played loaned at Deportivo Alaves, joined our Academy in the summer of 2008, at age 11.
“The French player passed through all the categories of the club from Alevín A until arriving at Atletico Madrid B in the campaign 2015-16.
“Theo Hernandez made the pre-season 2016-17 under Diego Pablo Simeone, playing two friendly matches against Numancia and Melbourne Victory, but never made an official debut with the first team.
“The player, who had a contract until 2021, has repeatedly rejected proposals for renewal at Atletico Madrid and offers from different European clubs to get their services, while at the same time has repeatedly expressed his firm desire to play for Real Madrid.”
