The Catalan giants began the window chasing Marco Verratti from Paris Saint-Germain, as sporting director Robert Fernandez confirmed in a press conference on Saturday.
However, PSG declared that the midfielder is not for sale and, despite some controversial remarks from his agent, Verratti stayed with the French giants, who instead successfully lured Neymar away from the Camp Nou.
Once the Brazilian completed his €222 million (R3.4 billion) switch, Barcelona attempted to sign multiple targets, but only Ousmane Dembele ended up joining the Blaugrana.
Their chase for Philippe Coutinho lasted until the final day of the transfer window, but Liverpool refused to sell their key player and put a €200 million (R3.1 billion) price tag on the Selecao star, according to Barcelona director Albert Soler.
Ivory Coast midfielder Jean Michael Seri was reportedly very close to completing a "dream move" to the Catalan giants before Barcelona pulled out of the deal at the last minute.
Fernandez had promised at least one late transfer, and the Blaugrana attempted to sign the likes of Angel Di Maria, Thomas Lemar and Paulo Dybala, but none of the deals were possible at such an advanced stage of the window.
