This game was Los Blancos' last warm-up match before they face Jose Mourinho's Manchester United in the UEFA Super Cup on 8 August.
Manager Zinedine Zidane left the likes of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Marcelo, Casemiro, Raphael Varane and Dani Carvajal on the bench for this encounter.
The MLS side, which consisted of players playing their football in the United States, was voted for by the league's fans, and it featured the likes of Kaka, David Villa, Tim Howard and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The match started off quite slowly, with few goalscoring opportunities, but in the 21st minute Marco Asensio forced the MLS goalkeeper Howard into a save, and 10 minutes later Toni Kroos had a shot that came close to breaking the deadlock.
Fans had to wait until the second half to see goals, and it was the Zidane's men who took the lead, thanks to a Borja Mayoral strike in the 59th minute.
The Spanish side kept threatening the All-Stars' goal, but could not add to their lead, despite bringing on some of their big guns, including Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.
The 86th minute saw the MLS side catch Real off-guard as Dom Dwyer pounced on a rebound to take the game to penalties.
Los Blancos emerged victorious courtesy of the successful spot-kicks from Benzema, Bale, Mateo Kovacic and Marcelo.
