Leonardo Bonucci Reveals Who He Thinks Is The Best Defender In The World
Italy and AC Milan centre back Leonardo Bonucci has revealed who he thinks is the best defender in the world.
Ahead of his national team's 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Spain this weekend, the 30-year-old, who is widely regarded as one of the best in his position, was asked what he thought of La Furia Roja captain Sergio Ramos.
"Sergio is the best defender in the world and won the Champions League prize (for the best defender in the 2016/17 competition)," Bonucci said in a pre-match press conference, as quoted by Football Espana.
"Tackles and interceptions are partly down to the entire defence but there is also a certain science involved, and you can see that with him."
Bonucci also said he expects Italy to cause the Spaniards a few problems in their match on Saturday, and feels that the future of Italian football is bright.
"We have a team that can cause them problems and we will do our best to get the victory, even though we know it will not be easy," he added.
"We have confidence because there are a lot young talents coming through – there has been a generational change, with young players who have a lot of quality.
"I hope to be part of this change and stay for several years more wearing the blue shirt. (Daniele) Rugani, (Mattia) Caldara and (Alessio) Romagnoli are all very good.
"In midfield, there is (Lorenzo) Pellegrini and (Marco) Verratti, in attack we have (Lorenzo) Insigne and (Andrea) Belotti. Overall, you can see we are in good shape."
