Wantaway Arsenal Star Feels 'Cheated' By Arsene Wenger
A wantaway Arsenal star has slammed the club and manager Arsene Wenger for the way he has been treated over the past few months.
Striker Lucas Perez, who joined the Gunners in a £17 million (R288 million) deal in August last year, wants to return to his former club Deportivo La Coruna after just one season with the 2016/17 FA Cup winners.
The 28-year-old has started just nine games since his arrival at the Emirates, and was recently stripped of the No. 9 jersey by the London club.
"I want to leave to play and be happy," Perez told IBTimesUK.
"Last year I barely had any opportunities and when I had them I took advantage of them, and this season is clearly going to be more of the same.
"I want to fight to go to the national team. I want to play football, but for that, I have to leave.
"I think that the best place for me is at home, with Depor. They (Arsenal) are not behaving well with me.
"The thing of taking the shirt number without telling me to give it to a companion (Alexandre Lacazette), it seems to me the last straw.
"I cannot continue this way. I have given everything, but that has not been reciprocated, so I can't stand it any longer. I feel cheated.
"In February I was not allowed to leave for China with the promise that I would play more and after that, I had even fewer opportunities."
Perez made 21 appearances for the Gunners last season, scoring seven goals and assisting five further strikes in all competitions.
