Spurs Chasing Real Madrid Star
Tottenham Hotspur Chasing Real Madrid Star
Tottenham Hotspur, who have been very quiet in the transfer window so far, are now reportedly chasing a Real Madrid star.
Mauricio Pochettino's side finished runners-up to Chelsea in the Premier League in the 2016/17 campaign, and many believe they could go on to lift the trophy next season if they are able to keep their squad together and add one or two quality players.
The first player now linked with Spurs is Real's Mateo Kovacic but the Premier League club has reportedly had a first offer of €25 million (R374 million) for the central midfielder rejected.
Pochettino apparently wants to build his team around the Croatian, who could be seen as surplus to requirements at Los Blancos following the arrival of Dani Ceballos at the Santiago Bernabeu, according to AS.
In Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Marcos Llorente, Isco, Ceballos and Kovacic, Zinedine Zidane now has seven players competing for three midfield spots.
Spurs have money to spend after selling Kyle Walker to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City for €51 million (R763 million), but will reportedly face competition from Serie A sides Napoli and Inter Milan for Kovacic.
The 23-year-old made 39 appearances for Real last season, helping them lift the UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles.
