Reports: Wayne Rooney Pulled Out Of Manchester United's Pre-Season Tour
Wayne Rooney has reportedly been withdrawn from Manchester United's pre-season tour of the United States.
According to The Sun, the 31-year-old is on the verge of returning to his former club Everton, which is apparently why he has been taken out of the touring party.
The Red Devils are expected to leave for the US, where they will play against LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake, Manchester City and FC Barcelona, on Sunday.
Sources close to both clubs say the deal is definitely on, with a lot of progress said to have been made over the past 24 hours.
Rooney joined the Old Trafford club from the Toffees 13 years ago, for a then record fee of £26.5 million (R455 million).
There were rumours the England international would look to join either an MLS club or Chinese Super League team, but those reports seem to have died down.
Since moving to Manchester, the striker has gone on to become United's all-time leading goalscorer, with 253 strikes.
It is believed that Rooney agreed to an Everton return after a holiday with his family, during which he discussed his future with his wife.
The Englishman made 39 appearances for the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League champions last season, scoring eight goals and assisting 10 further strikes.
