Reports: Manchester United Ditch Cristiano Ronaldo Interest & Target Neymar
Premier League giants Manchester United have reportedly ditched their attempt to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo, deciding to target FC Barcelona star Neymar instead.
According to Don Balon, manager Jose Mourinho never wanted the Portugal captain at Old Trafford, but would like to make Brazil international the face of his new-look side.
The Red Devils were heavily linked Ronaldo last week after news broke that the 32-year-old wanted to leave Spain following accusations of alleged tax fraud being levelled at him.
Fresh reports suggest that Real's all-time leading scorer has since calmed down and will now stay in the Spanish capital after talks with his club president, Florentino Perez.
United are said to be keen to make a few big signings in the transfer window after securing UEFA Champions League football for next season.
Mourinho apparently wants a marquee attacker, and it has emerged that Neymar is seemingly the Portuguese manager's ultimate prize.
The Selecao talisman's release clause is believed to be set at £176 million (R2.89 billion), a fee not many clubs in the world could afford.
