Reports: Liverpool Bid R1.12bn For An Arsenal Target

Premier League outfit Liverpool have reportedly made a €72 million (R1.12 billion) bid for a player closely linked with Arsenal.

According to French publication L’Equipe, the Anfield club has offered a club record fee for 21-year-old France international Thomas Lemar.

The report claims that the move has nothing to do with the future of Philippe Coutinho, who remains heavily linked with FC Barcelona.

Liverpool have rejected three offers from the Catalan giants for their Brazilian international, but it remains to be seen if the Spanish giants are to make another bid in the coming days.

Lemar has been linked with two other Premier League clubs in this transfer window, one being Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal and the other Manchester United.

Since the opening of the transfer window, Arsenal have apparently had three bids rejected from Monaco. The Gunners' latest bid was allegedly in the region of €50 million (R780m), which is over €20 million (R312m) less than Liverpool's reported offer.

The Frenchman is contracted to the French club until 2020, but this has not changed his desire to play in the English top flight.

The 21-year-old made 55 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions last season and scored 14 goals, while further assisting in 17 more.
