Reports: FC Barcelona Hope To Sign Premier League Star In Order To Keep Neymar
FC Barcelona are reportedly hoping to strike a deal with a Premier League star in an effort to persuade Neymar to stay at the Camp Nou.
The Brazil talisman is said to be on the verge of joining Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain for a world record fee of €222 million (R3.46 billion) over the next few days, a deal the Blaugrana are desperately trying to stop.
According to Spanish publication Diario Gol, the Catalan giants apparently believe that if they are able to sign Neymar's good friend and Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho, the 25-year-old forward could be convinced to stay in Spain.
In fact, in March, Neymar even expressed his desire to play alongside his friend at Barcelona, but nothing has materialised since.
"A Premier League player that I would like to have in Barcelona is Coutinho," he was quoted as saying by Diario Gol.
"I believe Philippe Coutinho is a player that would totally fit in at Barcelona."
Liverpool have stood firm in recent weeks, though, with manager Jurgen Klopp insisting that their star player is not for sale, no matter the size of the offer.
"If you say he is not available to be sold, where is the interpretation?" the German tactician said at a press conference on Monday, as quoted by the BBC.
"The word 'not' means there is no interpretation. There is nothing new."
Coutinho has made 181 appearances for the Reds since joining them in 2013, scoring 42 goals and assisting 37 further strikes.
