Reports: FC Barcelona Eye French Star As No. 1 Replacement For Neymar
Spanish giants FC Barcelona have reportedly identified a France international as their No. 1 target to replace Neymar.
According to Spanish publication Sport, Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann has become the Catalan club's main target, with Neymar apparently on the verge of becoming the world's most expensive player – Paris Saint-Germain are said to be close to paying the Brazilian's £196 million (R3.48 billion) release clause to secure his services.
Griezmann was expected to join Manchester United in this window, but that transfer ended when his Spanish club's transfer ban was upheld by FIFA, which sees them being unable to register any new players until January 2018.
The 26-year-old has since stated that he feels obligated to stay with Atletico though the ban, but some sources suggest that the player will find it difficult to resist the chance to join Barcelona if it came around.
New reports coming out of Spain suggest that the Frenchman has become the Blaugrana's preferred option to replace Neymar, especially with Liverpool said to be unwilling to let the Blaugrana's alternative target, Philippe Coutinho, leave Merseyside.
The Reds have already rejected a £72 million (R1.26 billion) bid from the Catalan giants, although some believe they would be willing to let the Brazilian playmaker go if an offer of £90 million (R1.57 billion) or more came in.
Griezmann has made 160 appearances for the Rojiblancos since joining them in 2014, scoring 83 goals in all competitions.
