Report: Pep Guardiola's Call Convinced Real Madrid Star To Snub Chelsea
Manchester City will reportedly beat Premier League rivals Chelsea to the signing of a Real Madrid star after Pep Guardiola personally contacted the player.
The Citizens are close to signing right back Danilo, as reported by Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Los Blancos defender was apparently close to joining Chelsea, but now seems to be on his way to Manchester City.
Di Marzio has claimed that a personal call from Guardiola swung Danilo's decision in City's favour, and he could sign a contract as early as Friday this week.
The player would be Guardiola's second right back signing of the window, but the versatile player can also be used as a left back and in midfield.
City will apparently pay an initial fee of €30 million (R448 million), and an additional €5 million (R75 million) in performance-based bonuses is also said to have been agreed.
The 26-year-old joined Real for €31.5 million (R470 million) from FC Porto in 2015, and has made 56 appearances for Los Blancos since, scoring three goals and assisting another nine strikes.
Danilo would be Guardiola's fourth signing of the window following the arrivals of goalkeeper Ederson, attacking midfielder Bernardo Silva and right back Kyle Walker.
