Report: Pep Guardiola Furious With Dani Alves ‘Betrayal’
Pep Guardiola is reportedly furious after Dani Alves ‘betrayed’ him and joined Paris Saint-Germain instead of Manchester City.
The Brazil right-back was reportedly very close to joining the Citizens after giving Guardiola a verbal agreement to sign, according to Marca.
The City boss expected his former player to join the club on Monday and follow the team on the US pre-season tour, but on Wednesday he was announced as PSG player following a last-minute approach by the French giants.
“If Guardiola and Manchester City feel hurt by my decision, I am sorry. But I have come here to be a champion,” Alves said, as quoted by Sport.
“If Pep feels hurt, I apologise.”
Alves will allegedly earn twice as much at PSG, namely £230 000 (R3.9m) per week instead of the £115 000 (R2m) offered by the Premier League side.
The 34-year-old, who had made 208 appearances under Guardiola at FC Barcelona, signed a two-year contract at PSG, and his decision has left his former boss reportedly frustrated.
Marca claim the Spaniard feels betrayed by his former player, suggesting Alves’ transfer came at a big “personal cost because of those who considered themselves friends of his, are now his enemies”.
