Premier League New Boy: Why I Snubbed FC Barcelona
One of the Premier League’s newest signings has revealed why he decided to snub FC Barcelona for Tottenham Hotspur.
Colombia international Davinson Sanchez joined the London club from Ajax Amsterdam on a five-year deal for a fee believed to be in the region of £42 million (R706 million).
Speaking to media while on duty with his national team Colombia, the centre back explained why he turned down the opportunity to join the Spanish giants, even though he rates them as one of the best teams in the world.
"For me, Barcelona has always been one of the best in the world, but the conditions I was going to arrive to were not the best," Sanchez said, as quoted by Sport English.
"Luckily, a decision was taken based on football, not on marketing."
The 21-year-old made 46 appearances and scored six goals for Ajax in the previous campaign, and also helped them reach the 2016/17 Europa League final.
