The Spaniard already signed goalkeeper Ederson and attacking midfielder Bernardo Silva this transfer window, but he still needs add new faces in the full-back positions.
City released the likes of Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy, which means they need to add at least a right-back and a left-back to their squad.
According to the Telegraph, City are now close to agreeing a deal for Tottenham Hotspur’s Kyle Walker, who is unlikely to report for pre-season at Spurs on Friday.
Guardiola’s side had an initial offer of £40 million (R683m) rejected for the 27-year-old, but reportedly increased their offer after Alves decided to join Paris Saint-Germain.
Walker’s move to the Etihad Stadium seems more and more likely and could reportedly even break the record for the most expensive defender, set by David Luiz’s £50 million (R854m) move from Chelsea to PSG.
City are reportedly also closing in on a new left-back, where Guardiola has identified Benjamin Mendy as his preferred target. According to Sky Sports, Monaco hold out for £50 million for the 22-year-old but negotiations have made “significant progress”.
