FC Barcelona To Battle Real Madrid Over U21 European Championship Star
FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will reportedly do battle for the signature of the Spain star who was named Man of the Tournament at the recent U21 European Championship.
Real Betis' Dani Ceballos became the first winner of UEFA's new U21 Euro Player of the Tournament award after impressing as Spain finished runners-up in the 2017 edition of the competition.
He arguably outshone names such as Real's Marco Asensio and Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez, and now has both Spanish giants chasing him.
While many reports suggest that Los Blancos are the frontrunners for his signature, having offered to loan him back to Betis for a season, Betis' vice president has confirmed interest from Barcelona.
"I devoted the time with Barcelona to closing the signing of Cristian (Tello)," Serra Ferrer told AS.
"(But) it's true that they asked for my opinion on Dani, and I gave it to them.
"(Our new coach) Quique Setien will have a conversation with Dani and hopefully he'll see that the project isn't just based around him, but also players like Tello.
"I hope he not only stays with us for one more season, but many more. It's also true that there's Dani's standpoint too, and he might be of the opinion that he'll feel (more) fulfilled if he goes to a top club."
Ceballos made 31 appearances for Betis last season, scoring two goals and assisting another two strikes.
