The 34-year-old will leave the club after 10 years, with his next destination yet to be revealed.
Rumours have seen him being linked with switches to Serie A clubs as well as Paris Saint-Germain, and Los Blancos are eager to find a replacement.
According to Diario Gol, Zinedine Zidane has suggested five names who could fill the gap left by the Portuguese.
Aymeric Laporte has impressed during his time at Athletic Bilbao and seems destined for a move to a bigger club. However, Real would have to fend off interest from FC Barcelona, where he could reunite with his former coach Ernesto Valverde, and Manchester City to secure his services.
Leonardo Bonucci and Marquinhos are other names on the list, but it remains to be seen whether either can be lured away from their clubs.
Nicolas Otamendi, who is apparently not in Pep Guardiola's first-team plans, is another defender being assessed by Zidane. The 29-year-old has a lot of experience and previously played for Valencia in Spain.
David Alaba is the final name on the list, but it seems questionable that Real would target the left back as a centre-back option even though he has played in that position for Bayern Munich before.
