Reports: The Truth Behind Failed 'Riyad Mahrez To Manchester United' Move

By Kurt Buckerfield - Sep 05, 2017 03:09 PM @KurtLaduma

Reports suggest that African star Riyad Mahrez almost signed for Jose Mourinho's Manchester United on deadline day, but here is reportedly the truth on what happened.

In-form Ronaldo Closes In On European All-Time Goal Record

The winger was released from Algeria's national team camp on the last day of the window to sort out a move away from Leicester City.

Mahrez was then linked with FC Barcelona, Roma, Chelsea and the Red Devils as he appeared to be close to an exit from the Foxes, but UK newspaper the Leicester Mercury has now insisted the player was never a target for Mourinho.

The report claimed the Portuguese manager was never interested in the player – this comes after it had been rumoured that Mahrez was in Manchester on deadline day.

It is also believed that no Premier League team even made a bid for the 26-year-old, and that it was only Roma who made an offer.

10 Africans Who Could Still Move After The Window Closed

Mourinho's two main attacking targets in the window, after successfully luring Romelu Lukaku to Old Trafford, were reported to be Real Madrid's Gareth Bale and Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann.

Are you disappointed to see Mahrez stay at Leicester this season? Let us know in the comments section below.
