Premier League Starting XI: Arsenal vs Leicester City
2016/17 FA Cup champions Arsenal start their 2017/18 Premier League campaign against Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night – here's how the two teams will line up.
Teams: Arsenal vs Leicester City
Date: 11 August 2017
Venue: Emirates Stadium
The Foxes go into the tie on a terrible streak as they are currently winless in 21 league games against the Gunners, with 14 of those matches having been losses.
The only time the 2015/16 champions have actually beaten Arsenal in the competition was back in November 1994, when they won 2-1 at Filbert Street.
The Londoners, though, have not always got their league campaigns off on the right foot. They have won only once in their last seven opening fixtures – three ended in draws and the other three in losses.
The Gunners have never lost a Premier League game on a Friday, winning six of seven matches. Their last league defeat on a Friday came against Watford in April 1988 – before the EPL era.
In team news, Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac are set to make their league debuts for Arsenal, but Alexis Sanchez is ruled out with an abdominal strain. Laurent Koscielny is banned, while Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey are fitness doubts.
Leicester will be without Robert Huth, Danny Drinkwater and Vicente Iborra.
Here's how they line up:
Arsenal: Cech; Holding, Monreal, Kolasinac; Bellerin, Elneny, Xhaka, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Ozil, Welbeck; Lacazette.
Leicester City: Schmeichel, Simpson, Morgan (c), Maguire, Fuchs, Mahrez, Ndidi, James, Albrighton, Okazaki, Vardy.
