TalkSPORT recently compiled a list of the English top flight's costliest players per minute on the pitch, and eight of the top 10 play for one of the two Manchester clubs.
Wayne Rooney, who left the Red Devils in this window, pocketed £13.52 million (R229 million) for the 2016/17 campaign at United. However, he wasn't a regular starter in Jose Mourinho's line-up, and only racked up 2 415 minutes on the pitch in all competitions.
As a consequence, the Englishman, who retired from international football on Wednesday, was the most expensive player per minute played, with United paying him £5 598 a minute (R95 000).
He is followed by Yaya Toure, who missed large parts of the first half of the season after falling out with Pep Guardiola. The Ivorian managed to feature in 2 501 minutes for Manchester City, and with a reported annual salary of £12.48 million (R211m), he cost the Citizens £4 990 (R84 561) per minute last season.
Cesc Fabregas played even less than the aforementioned duo due to Chelsea's lack of European football and after losing his starting spot in Antonio Conte's line-up. The Spaniard featured in 1 952 minutes for the Blues, and ended up being paid £4 529 (R76 749) a minute after pocketing £8.84 million (R150m) overall last season
Sergio Aguero, with £3 563 (R60 378) per minute, and Paul Pogba, with £3 467 (R58 752) per minute, complete the top five, with Eden Hazard and Zlatan Ibrahimovic also appearing among the 10 costliest players per minute.
